SMOOTHIES – love or not?

Have you tried adding smoothies to your day?

I love them as a quick on the go snack that will give me the energy boost that I need. Smoothies are also a great choice for breakfast. With the right ingredients they are low GI and will help curb your sugar cravings for the entire day and will also help beat the afternoon slump.

Smoothies are made from fresh, natural ingredients like fruit, vegetables and other nutrient dense foods so as well as being filling, they’re kind to your digestion!

But don’t confuse them with prepackaged diet shakes that are manufactured with chemically altered ingredients that often cause digestive issues. These products may give a short term weight loss, but have next to no nutrient value so they won’t give you the energy that you need.

Why smoothies?

• Give your digestion a break!

When you blend your foods, you are supporting the digestive process. Your body doesn’t have to work so hard to break down the nutrients as they are in a pre-digestible state.

• Smoothies are a quick breakfast that can help energise you throughout the entire day
When you toss in some greens, a little fruit, and a healthy liquid like coconut water you’ll feel energetic and ready to take on the day.Starting the day with a smoothie also gives you antioxidants which help protect our bodies from free radicals, and they are a great low glycemic start.
• Better Than Multi-Vitamins
Despite what most people may think, daily “multi-vitamins” are not proven to have significant health benefits, and few have been shown effective.  The bottom line, the best way to get nutrition is from food, and consuming a healthy smoothie every day gives you most of your nutrition in one proven, delicious dosage.
• Smoothies are  the perfect snack to beat the afternoon slump
Smoothies are chock full of live and rich enzymes, ready to hit your bloodstream and give you the vitamins and nutrients you deserve.
• Smoothies help keep you hydrated
A smoothie for breakfast helps you get hydrated for the day, something coffee won’t do. Since your body pulls water from many foods in order to stay hydrated, you won’t have to drink water when you’re sipping on a smoothie.
