Infused water is simply water that retains the flavour of whatever fruit or herb was soaked in it. Fruits infused in water do not typically release all of their juice; usually just a little juice is released, along with other flavours from the rind, so while they have all the benefits of the fruit they don’t have the sugar.
Try different combinations of fruits, herbs and veggies to find your favourite.
Slice fruits or vegetables of your choice into bite-sized pieces. Put into the bottom of a water bottle or jug, add water and seal. Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to steep the flavours. (It will keep in the fridge for up to 2 days.)
Drink at room temperature or chilled, whatever is your preference.
A couple of my favourites are:
Orange, lemon & ginger
Oranges aid with healthy blood circulation, lemons help aid digestion (and freshen breath) and ginger is a notorious immune system booster.
Cucumber, mint & lime
Cucumber is hydrating and flushes out toxins, lime is an excellent anti-ageing weapon due to its restorative properties for hair, skin, and nails, and mint supports the digestive system by activating salivary glands and digestive enzymes.
It’s hard to remember to drink enough when it’s cold outside, but it’s just as important as when it’s hot. Drink infused water instead of fizzy soft drinks (or if you like ‘fizz’, try sparkling water instead).
