WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE A DAILY AFFIRMATION AND HOW TO GET ONE!

by | Oct 24, 2017

Did you know that self-talk programs your brain and that you also tend to communicate with others in your usual self-talk style?

The good news is self-talk is learned, so you can learn to speak in a positive way to yourself and to others!

Affirmations are a popular form of self-talk and a handy tool for creating new habits and helping to achieve your goals.

Affirmations are short, positive and empowering statements spoken in the present tense. You speak them as if you’ve already realised your goals or new habits.

Defined as “a declaration that something is true”, affirmations have been used for centuries! They work by breaking patterns of negative thoughts, speech, and actions.

Speaking an affirmation is a way of saying to your brain that ‘this is already a fact’ and using it repeatedly can begin to change your beliefs to agree with the affirmation, creating a new pattern of thought.

You can use affirmations to create change in your life on both conscious and subconscious levels.
Many highly successful people read and speak affirmations throughout their day and say that this is a big part of their success.

The power of affirmations can be summed up in Henry Ford’s famous words.
“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”

If you are firmly convinced that you can’t do something, you won’t even attempt it. If you believe it is “doable,” you’ll give it a try.

So why not give an affirmation a try!
Find or create one that resonates with you, something that reflects a change that you’re trying to create in your life.

Write it on a post-it note (or five) and put it in places where you’ll see it often – then say it each time you see it!

I also set them as my desktop image and put reminders on my phone. The more often you repeat your affirmation, the more likely it is to reprogram your way of thinking, moving you closer to achieving your goal or new habit – whatever it is that you’re trying to change.

These are three of my (current) favourite ones – you’re welcome to try them or you can create your own!
  • Today, I abandon my old habits and take up new, more positive ones.
  • I don’t have to be perfect to be confident.
  • I am passionate, healthy and energetic.

So, find an affirmation (or maybe two!) that resonates with you and reflects a change that you’re trying to create in your life.

Make it visible and repeat it often.

If you’re still not getting results, there may be some limiting belief patterns that are holding you back. So try to identify what that is, so you can release it and you’ll soon have the result that you want.
